Inventor of the TPF: Tom Killion, a former teacher, patterned this table-top factory after his company's large pen-twisting machinery so that children could create the same exact product that helped make him so successfull. Millions of pens have already sold for $3-$4 each--proving the product's viability in the marketplace. Mr. Killion considers his struggles (including his years of research and financial investment) his gifts to children who would follow in his footsteps.
The Nation's Youngest Fund-Raisers: Three, four, and five year-olds from an Indiana preschool produced heart-shaped pens (with a TPF) for the purpose of raising funds for the United Way at Christmas. The local Walgreens placed the pens in a large cup at the counter where interested donors could contribute. Walgreens has already invited the preschool class to repeat the project next year. Donations averaged $1.00 each with supplies costing 29 cents per pen.
